Engineering is much more than science, math or computers. It’s about a drive to imagine – and develop – innovative solutions to common and not-so-common problems. Our students come to us with a passion for making the world a better place – whether that’s looking for solutions to climate change, improving consumer products like roller skates and cell phones, or developing medication to treat serious illnesses.

Our engineering transfer degree program will provide you with the skills, knowledge and foundation to succeed at a four-year university. In fact, you’ll take similar classes as first and second year students at a university. But at Clackamas, you’ll benefit from smaller classes, flexible schedules, lower tuition, and hands-on opportunities to explore and imagine a better way forward.

The engineering transfer curriculum was developed in partnership with leading experts in the field and alongside the four-year universities our students transfer to. Those schools include Portland State University, Oregon Institute of Technology and Oregon State University. 

After completing an associate degree in one of our engineering fields, you should be well-prepared to join your peers as a junior at one of our partner universities or many top universities across the country. Our students take all basic requirements for their chosen field of study, including math, sciences and computer classes. You will also gain hands-on skills in our labs and through engineering projects.

Starting your education at Clackamas Community College is a smart choice that saves you money on your path to a bachelor degree from a four-year university.

CCC offers some of the lowest tuition rates in the Portland metro area. To begin building the cost for your program, you can start with the base estimate below. 

This estimate includes the cost of tuition and the general fees applied per class and per academic term. This estimate does not include additional fees required for many courses or the cost of course materials. Contact the program to learn more about additional costs that may apply.

Is it common for engineering students to start at a community college?

Yes! It’s estimated that as many as 40% of engineering students start out at a two-year college. At Portland State University (one of our partner schools), as many as 75% of engineering students started at a community college.

Who is on the faculty at Clackamas?

Our Engineering Department faculty are highly experienced and driven to deliver an outstanding education to our students. They all have a master’s or Ph.D.s in engineering and have chosen to teach at Clackamas because of their passion for helping students find their path in a field that they love.

How big are classes?

Our class sizes are small — much smaller than what you would experience at a four-year university. Classes typically have 15 to 30 students. Larger universities might have as many as 100 students in intro classes.

Will I have an advisor?

Your engineering advisor is an important partner in your success! Engineering students typically have the most requirements out of any major. Careful planning is important to help you complete the courses you need — in the timeframe that works best for you.

We have two engineering advisors who will be by your side the entire time you are at Clackamas. They are eager to help you succeed.

When should I choose my focus and four-year university?

The sooner the better. We know it can be overwhelming to find the field that’s right for you. Our advisors will help you explore each option and discuss the pros and cons of each field. But, we do encourage students to identify the path that is right for them as soon as they can. This helps you meet your goals and stay on track toward your chosen profession.

Can I work and take classes part-time?

Yes! Many of our students take advantage of flexible schedules. You can take a lighter course load or sign up for evening classes. Your advisor can help answer any questions you have and help you make a schedule that works for your life.

Can I enroll in Clackamas and a four-year university at the same time?

Many of our students take advantage of our degree partnership program (co-admission). This allows you to mix and match classes between a community college and university. Our students sometimes choose this to help save money or create a schedule that meets their busy lifestyle or outside demands. Your advisor or the engineering transfer degree contact can help you learn more about this program and help you decide if it is right for you.
